Relief schedule: 8–12 hour rotating shifts, 4 days per week; every other Saturday is a rotating shift. No prior dialysis experience required; extensive paid training is provided.
Purpose and ScopeThe professional Registered Nurse Outpatient RN CAP1 is an entry‑level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). The role is accountable for providing and coordinating clinically competent care—including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation—for an assigned group of patients. Duties include delegating tasks to RN, LVN/LPN, and Patient Care Technician staff and participating in decision‑making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and, as guided by the Clinical Educator or Preceptor, in collaboration with other Registered Nurses.
- Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment; document data, adjust treatment plans as needed, and notify the Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Physician.
- Assess, collaborate, and document patient and family learning needs; provide initial and ongoing education.
- Direct and collaborate with staff to safely and effectively deliver hemodialysis therapy.
- Administer medications according to prescriptions or approved algorithms; document justification and effectiveness.
- Assist with emergency response measures.
- Serve as a resource for the healthcare team, participate in staff training, and orient new staff as assigned.
- Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures; reschedule missed or insufficient collections.
- Identify expected outcomes and update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.
- Ensure patients are aware of transplant and treatment modality options.
- Complete CAP requirements for advancement.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Heavy lifting and patient transfer; equipment aids or colleague assistance may be used.
- Regular periods of standing, bending, and occasional lifting of equipment up to 200lbs and chemicals or water solutions up to 30lbs.
- Typical healthcare facility environment with temperature control and moderate noise levels.
- May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
- Includes desk, computer, and interpersonal work with patients, staff, and physicians.
- May require travel to training sites or other facilities.
- Position may be performed at other sites with equivalent demands.
- Oversee Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after:
- Succesful completion of all FKC education and training for new employees.
- Minimum 9months RN experience.
- Minimum 3months chronic/acute hemodialysis RN experience.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current state licensure.
- Current or completed CPR BLS Certification.
- Meet state practice requirements.
- Entry level for RNs with fewer than 2years of nephrology nursing experience.
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred).
For international RN candidates:
Bachelor's degree in nursing plus either a CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate, an NCLEX pass letter, or a state registered nursing license. Current state licensure and CPR BLS certification required.
