Bring your intraoperative nursing expertise to UW Health as a Nursing Education Specialist. This 100% FTE position typically works Monday through Friday, day shift hours, with possible off hours or weekends based on department needs. Primary work location:
East Madison Hospital, Madison, WI.
We are seeking an MSN or DNP prepared Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical services team as a Nursing Education Specialist (NES)-EMH OR
. The NES will lead onboarding and ongoing professional development for nursing staff in the Operating Room at East Madison Hospital, support a high-volume, multi-specialty surgical environment, and collaborate with surgical services, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams to develop curriculum and education for safe, efficient perioperative care.
- Lead onboarding and ongoing professional development for OR nursing staff at East Madison Hospital.
- Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for intraoperative nursing practice across orthopedic, general, bariatric, minimally invasive, and emerging service lines.
- Support a dynamic OR setting performing 40–50 cases daily across 14 operating rooms, with expansion including additional suites and new specialties (e.g., ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, gynecology).
- Collaborate with surgical services, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams to develop curriculum that supports safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care.
- Facilitate onboarding for experienced nurses transitioning into the OR and support competency development in a technology-driven environment, including robotics and evolving surgical innovations.
- Serve as a clinical education resource and participate in system-wide initiatives; three (3) years of surgical services nursing experience including intraoperative/circulator nursing experience strongly preferred.

- Education: Master s Degree in Nursing Required
- Preferred: Master s Degree in Nursing Education
- 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience (Required)
- 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience with position-specific patient population (Preferred)
- 3 years of experience providing orientation and education for nursing staff in a clinical setting (Preferred)
- Relevant experience in primary and specialty clinic settings for NES candidates in ambulatory areas (Preferred)
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or a license from a compact jurisdiction (Upon Hire, Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification (Required)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months (Required)
- National certification in relevant specialty (Preferred)
