Job Title
This position is a dual function position working within Employee Occupational Health and as a Float Clinic RN.
Within the float clinic role, the RN is responsible to provide, direct, and oversee the delivery of quality nursing care to a veteran population in the Madison Central clinics (specialty & primary care). The Clinic RN works closely with the staff LPNs to oversee the delivery of care in Madison's Central Hospital Specialty Clinics. This includes serving as a resource for LPN staff, assisting with patient flow, assessing patients with clinical changes in condition and responding as needed.
In addition, the Clinic RN also provides individual and group education and trainings to Veterans in the Patient Education Resource Center. The Clinic Nurse possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This broad-based clinical knowledge enables the Registered Nurse to effectively implement health promotion and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic illness states, and assist veterans in the attainment of optimal levels of functioning.
Within Employee Occupational Health (EOH), the Nurse is responsible for supporting and maintaining employee health and safety programs which ensure delivery of quality care provided to adult employees of the VA medical center. The Primary focus of clinical practice is to maintain optimum health, prevent illness and injury, manage selected acute or chronic health problems and ensure compliance with all federal, local and state regulations related to Occupational Health practice.
This portion of the Position may involve travel to other VA sites and CBOCs. Nursing care is provided by Registered Nurse (and LPN, select tasks as delegated). Nursing care encompasses a broad range of activities based on employees' needs. These may include tuberculosis screening at hire, referral for latent tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B immune status indicated follow-up counseling and testing after biohazard exposure, medical evaluation for respirator fit-testing, follow-up work related injury or illness, workplace health and safety risk analysis via Accident Review Board, wellness and health promotion activities via facility wellness committee.
In addition, RN is responsible to provide, direct, and oversee the delivery of quality nursing care to the Veteran population in the Madison Respiratory clinic. This includes serving as a resource for support staff, providing oversight to the clinic flow and processes, assessing patients with clinical changes in condition and responding as needed, providing patient education. The EOH/Float Clinic Nurse reports to the Specialty Clinics Nurse Manager who directs the division of workload for the Float Clinic/ EOH RN.
The division of time spent between EOH and Specialty Clinics will be determined by the Specialty Clinics Nurse Manager or Designee.
