Plays a crucial role in providing immediate and specialized care to children facing acute illnesses or injuries in a dedicated pediatric emergency department. Quickly assesses the conditions of pediatric patients, prioritizes care based on severity, and implements life‑saving interventions.
Department OverviewThe Pediatric Emergency Department at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center is a dynamic, 8‑bed unit staffed by highly trained and qualified pediatric emergency nurses, physicians, and support staff. Nursing in this unit plays a crucial role in improving patient outcomes during critical moments.
Key Responsibilities- Provides family‑centered care
- Quickly assesses patients to identify their needs
- Works well under pressure
- Works closely with board‑certified pediatric emergency physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and child‑life specialists to provide excellent care
- Explains treatment plans and procedures to patients and families, offering emotional support and reassurance
- Maintains hospital and unit‑specific competencies
- Collaborates with the pediatric acute care team to coordinate the transition of care for admitted patients
At least 1 year of pediatric emergency experience preferred.
Position Requirements- Courses offered through the hospital and required within 6 months of hire:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
