Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pediatrics – American Family Children’s Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin.

A 60% FTE position focusing on evening/night shifts with a two in six weekend rotation and holiday shifts. The role supports high‑acuity pediatric care in NICU, PICU, complex care units, and medical/surgical areas while rotating through the float pool to cover leaves, acuity changes, and absences.

• Hours vary based on departmental operational needs.
• Eligible for float differential plus shift and weekend differentials.

• Float across multiple pediatric units to provide coverage for sick leaves, unit acuity changes, and absences.
• Deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents in NICU, PICU, complex care, hematology/oncology, and medical/surgical units.
• Utilize critical thinking to assess patients, recognize and manage complications, and safely administer appropriate nursing interventions and advanced life support therapies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, advanced practice providers, and medical teams—to coordinate patient care.
• Mentor new float pool nurses, orient nursing students, and contribute to quality improvement and shared governance efforts.

• Education (Preferred):
  Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience (Minimum):
  Six (6) months RN experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on a similar unit.
• Experience (Preferred):
  Relevant RN experience in pediatric care.
• Licenses & Certifications (Minimum):
  Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Wisconsin or a jurisdiction with the nurse licensure compact; current CPR/BLS certification; PALS certification within 12 months of hire.
• Licenses & Certifications (Preferred):
