This is an excellent opportunity with benefits for a Registered Nurse (40 hours/week) at our Madison East Abortion Health Center.
In accordance with Planned Parenthood of WI policies, protocols, and procedures the Registered Nurse provides clinical care for patients under the direction of PPWI's Medical Director. As a member of a total health care team, the Registered Nurse provides comprehensive teaching and education, direct nursing care, triage of patients, and participates in the implementation of the patient's care plan.

- Experience in electronic health records (EHR), Office 365, and Microsoft Office Products.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
- Clinical skills to operate basic clinic and lab equipment essential to performing the job, including but not limited to scales, ultrasound machine, Hemo Cue, blood pressure equipment, etc.
- Ability to read and implement written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Demonstrated ability to manage health-related emergency conditions including independent decision-making.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills desirable.
- CPR certifiable.
Education and/or experience includes:
- Must have a current license as a Registered Nurse by the State of Wisconsin.
- A minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience is preferred.
Physical requirements include:
- Extensive standing, walking, reaching, frequent sitting, grasping manipulation of equipment, utilization of fine finger movements, occasional kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, and climbing.
- Requires the ability to operate medical equipment. Ability to see objects closely and distinguish colors, hear sounds with some background noise, write legibly and the ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
Working conditions include:
- The position is generally performed in a medical office environment but involves frequent interruptions. The noise level is generally low to quiet.
- Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training which will include extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment.
- This position requires occasional travel statewide, therefore a valid driver's license and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards may be required. Must have transportation.
- Evening and/or weekend hours may be necessary.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Responsible for assessing, planning and administering health care which is individualized to the patient and consistent with the policies and protocols of PPFA and PPWI.
- Collect and document patient history and symptoms according to PPWI guidelines.
- Administer and dispense medications to patients based on conditions and symptoms.
- Monitor patient's condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice including making appropriate referrals as needed.
- Develop, implement, and revise care plans that reflect patient's diagnosis, treatment plan and outlined standards of care.
- Perform routine lab tests, vital signs, and procedures (blood pressure, IV insertions, ultrasounds etc.).
- Provide information and education to patients related to sexual and reproductive health care.
- Assist physician and other clinical staff in providing comprehensive patient care including assisting with procedures.
- Provide management of the patient in the recovery room as needed following procedures including monitoring vital signs, assessing condition, reporting change of condition to physician and site manager, and initiating emergency procedures as necessary.
- Administer and dispense contraceptive supplies and therapeutics according to clinician's care plan or standing orders in compliance with PPWI pharmacy standards.
