Job Overview

UW Health is seeking a Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine for a position in Madison, Wisconsin. This is an ongoing, full‑time staff role (40 hours per week) with typical shifts of 8–9 hours, including days, nights, weekends, and on‑call duties. The PA will work in the Emergency Department at the University Hospital and East Madison Hospital, collaborating with a team of approximately 20 advanced practice providers and 50 core faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, examine, diagnose, and treat patients of all acuities in collaboration with onsite physicians.
  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and imaging studies.
  • Order and prescribe medications and other therapies.
  • Perform routine procedures such as suturing, arthrocentesis, joint reduction, incision and drainage of abscesses.
  • Maintain readiness to perform advanced tasks, including endotracheal intubation and central line placement.
Qualifications
  • Medical education:
    Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nursing Program (if entering as a Nurse Practitioner) or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program (if entering as a PA).
  • Minimum licensure:
    State of Wisconsin NP or PA licensure.
  • If Nurse Practitioner:
    • Active RN and APRN certifications and licenses, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice.
    • Active board certification as an NP in area of clinical practice (e.g., Emergency, Family).
  • If Physician Assistant:
    • Active PA license, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice.
    • Active PA board certification.
  • All applicants must possess an active DEA license or the ability to obtain one prior to or upon hire.
