Crossroads Community Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm located in Cross Plains, Wisconsin. The farm is queer-owned, co-owned, and operated by Cassie & Mike, and is committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone to work. The farm provides healthy, local, and sustainably grown fruits and vegetables to the Madison area, and about 10% of the food produced is donated to those in need.
Job DescriptionCrossroads Community Farm is hiring field crew members for the 2026 season. Field work is physically demanding and involves transplanting, row‑covering, weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing vegetables in all weather conditions. Crew members work 38 weeks (4 days per week) and begin hiring in early February on a rolling basis until positions are filled.
Responsibilities- Transplant vegetables and apply row covers
- Weed and manage crop beds
- Harvest vegetables and wash them for shipping
- Pack produce into boxes for distribution
- Maintain a productive pace while ensuring quality
- Bend, kneel, and lift frequently (25–45 pounds)
- Work cooperatively with crew members
- Follow verbal instruction and communicate clearly with the farm team
- At least one full season on a vegetable farm or similar agricultural experience
- Ability to balance speed and quality of work
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to follow directions
- Strong stamina and efficiency in moving the body
The starting wage for the 2026 season is $16.84 per hour, with a season‑end bonus that can increase total compensation to approximately $17.84 per hour. Benefits include:
- Access to surplus organic produce
- $115 rain gear reimbursement
- Commitment‑end bonus of about $1 per hour worked
- Optional retirement IRA with farm match
- Full‑time Field Crew: 38 hour weeks (4 days per week) from early June through mid/late October; some positions extend into November
- Part‑time Field Crew: 2–3 days per week, 9.5 hours per day, from June through October (typically only for experienced applicants)
