Position Summary
Merjent's field services division has seasonal openings for Archaeological Field Technicians on various projects throughout Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Join Merjent's team for 8-12 weeks of consistent Phase 1 fieldwork, with options to pick up smaller jobs or join active crews now through Labor Day.
These are part time seasonal opportunities expected to begin in April 2026.
Compensation will be a flat rate daily per diem of $68.00 per day for days worked. Overtime compensation for any time worked over 40 hours each week will be paid. Project-based lodging (single occupancy) will be covered 7 days a week. Schedule is Monday - Saturday 10 hours a day with Sundays off.

Responsibilities- Perform pedestrian walkover surveys
- Perform hand excavations (shovel testing/auguring)
- Complete field-related paperwork
- Shovel Test Forms
- Soil Profile Forms
- Site Delineation
- Artifact Field Descriptions (measurements)
- Safety Hazard Analysis
- Previous experience performing pedestrian walkover surveys and hand excavations.
- Experience completing field paperwork.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. and perform repetitive, physical work in a range of weather and field conditions including rough and sometimes steep terrain.
- Ability to conduct field work for 10+ hours per day, work weekends, multiple week shifts on the road and regularly work in excess of 40 hours per week.
- Standard First Aid and CPR or ability to obtain.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel across Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota.
- This position requires job candidates to successfully complete a pre‑employment drug test.
