Job Summary

The Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, is seeking a Scientist III with a focus on developing novel molecular imaging tracers for neuroscience applications. The candidate will design research to identify potent, selective ligands for pathological proteins, conduct medicinal chemistry, supervise staff and manage program budget, and contribute to publications and grant writing. They should thrive in a collegial, collaborative academic setting.

Position Details
  • This position is terminal, 24‑month appointment, onsite at the designated campus work location.
  • The appointment may be extended or converted to an ongoing position based on need and funding.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge base in organic chemistry, including:
    • Organic synthesis of heterocyclic compounds
    • Synthesis of small analogue libraries
    • Lead characterization and optimization experience
    • Scale up of lead compounds to produce multi‑gram quantities
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews, prepare reports, and disseminate information.
  • Attend and assist with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations.
  • Collect and analyze complex research data, conduct experiments and interviews, and document results per policy.
  • Identify, write, or assist in developing grant opportunities and applications.
  • May supervise day‑to‑day activities of a research unit and staff, resolving routine personnel issues.
  • Identify research problems and develop complex methodologies and procedures; publish and present results.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert and liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor program budget and approve unit expenditures.

Compensation

Starting salary is $90,000 annually, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant postdoctoral experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of scientific project and laboratory management experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of medicinal chemistry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with laboratory analytical techniques such as 1H/13C‑NMR, HPLC, GC, TLC, MS.
  • Experience participating in multidisciplinary drug discovery projects involving testing, resource management, and communication of results.
Education

Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or closely related discipline.
