Job Summary

The Department of Medical Physics is seeking a Radiation Metrology Specialist to lead our brachytherapy well chamber and source calibration efforts and uphold the highest standards of radiological safety. This role will be the guardian of accuracy and safety, managing a comprehensive suite of survey meters and overseeing the lifecycle of both sealed and unsealed radioactive sources. Beyond routine operations, the specialist will serve as a subject matter expert, mentoring personnel and spearheading research to build a world‑class, activity‑based metrological laboratory.

The position requires onsite work at a designated campus location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of radiation dosimetry research through presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Design, implement, and execute research plans for improving clinical ionizing radiation metrology instrumentation.
  • Consult with department personnel on proper protocol for maintaining laboratory compliance with accrediting organizations.
  • Provide instruction and technical support on newly developed and existing measurement instrumentation in various environments.
  • Facilitate cooperative research groups to improve current and develop new highly sensitive ionizing radiation measurement instrumentation.
  • Calibrate well chambers and radioactive sources.
  • Ensure radiation and laboratory safety compliance.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experimental laboratory research experience, including familiar use of liquid radioactive solutions.
  • Experience as a radiation safety personnel member at the laboratory level.
  • Experience with general laboratory safety regulations and procedures.
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree required.
Compensation

Starting salary $72,000 annually, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include generous vacation, holidays, sick leave, competitive insurances, savings accounts, and retirement benefits.
