Research Specialist

Dr. Amgad Hanna's lab works on developing novel treatments for spinal cord injury and nerve regeneration. We are currently searching for a Research Specialist to conduct research including animal surgeries, animal care, data collecting, and literature research.

Additional Information:

  • Terminal, 12 month appointment.
  • This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
  • This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
Key

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials

Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin provides outstanding care and treatment for patients with brain, spine, and peripheral nerve diseases, disorders, and injuries; advances neuroscience knowledge through basic and clinical research; and trains students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $ 45,879 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of laboratory or research experience.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Previous experience with general lab bench work.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with animal handling and surgery.

  • Prior experience with immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry.

  • Prior experience with preparing study protocols and manuals of operations.

  • Prior experience preparing project reports, scientific manuscripts, and/or grant proposals.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in biology or related field required.

  • Master's Degree preferred.
