Job Summary:

The Crawford laboratory in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences is looking to recruit a full-time research specialist to support research projects and assist in lab organization. We are a neuroscience research lab that explores nerve injury, bladder pain mechanisms, and diseases that affect the nervous system. We study mouse models with additional collaborative projects that involve tissue samples from other species.

The ideal candidate has a high level of personal initiative and attention to detail along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. All applicants must be comfortable with research that includes mouse studies and tissue dissection. A passion for science is a must. Prior lab experience is a plus.

Duties will vary according to the needs of the lab and can include mouse colony maintenance, conducting mouse-based experiments, tissue dissection, and microscopy imaging, as well as molecular biology techniques including immunohistochemistry and Real Time QPCR. Depending on the interests of the applicant, there are opportunities for learning surgical techniques and image analysis as well as preparation of publications and presentations.

Training will be provided as needed. The candidate will be required to adhere to all animal care protocols, complete specific training in lab animal species (mouse, rodent surgeries), and participate in research group meetings. Occasional weekend and evening work could be required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports(5%)
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results (25%)
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials (15%)
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders (20%)
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers (20%)
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences (15%)

Compensation:

Minimum $45,879. Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Two years of experience working in a laboratory setting

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with conducting research in rodent models and familiarity with molecular biology techniques

Education:

B.S. or B.A or higher degree with a focus on science is preferred
