Job Summary:

The Office of Research Services (ORS) within the Department of Medicine (DOM) is seeking a Clinical Trial Accountant to manage financial operations for clinical research activities, including industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies. This role is critical to ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the Department’s clinical trial portfolio.

The Clinical Trial Accountant will collaborate with investigators, research coordinators, industry sponsors, and contract research organizations (CROs) to monitor expenditures, reconcile financial data, oversee research billing compliance, and manage participant payment processes. Responsibilities include reviewing study calendars and budgets for clinical trial billing activities and managing the Advarra participant payment system for DOM research subjects.

This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Serving as a central point of contact for clinical trial financial matters, the successful candidate will work closely with DOM leadership and external partners to ensure smooth operations and timely payments.   • This position may require some work to be performed in‑person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an off‑site, non‑campus work location.
  • Terminal, 24‑month appointment
  • This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists principal investigators with financial management of sponsored program budgets and directs day‑to‑day fiscal transactions.
  • Prepares and processes financial reporting and/or invoicing information.
  • Provides expertise and advice related to procurement and allowable charges.
  • Provides oversight and management of Advarra clinical research participant payment system on behalf of DOM.
  • Reviews financial expenditures for accuracy on sponsored grants and contracts.
  • Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements solutions as needed.
