The Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC) is seeking to fill one temporary, part-time position for Summer 2026. The position will participate in the Dane County Stream Crossing Inventory and Assessment project. Aligned with CARPC’s regional objectives and regional flood resilience work, this project will help town governments prioritize bridge and culvert replacement, identify priority actions to be included in future hazard mitigation plans, and generate valuable information for use in future watershed modeling.

- The position start date and end date are negotiable, anticipated to be approximately 15 weeks from mid-May to the end of August
- The position is for an average of 15-20 hours per week, some weeks to a maximum of 40 hours
- Pay is $24.29 per hour
- This role is not eligible for fringe benefits
Technician duties will include a mixture of outdoor and indoor work. Data collection/field work is weather dependent and includes work in and around streams, roads, and bridges. Workdays may be longer when the weather is suitable.
Technician will work with another technician and will be required to travel to field sites. Office work may include data setup and data entry, data review and quality control, and report preparation.
The ideal candidates will meet a combination of the following requirements:
Minimum qualifications:
- Two years of undergraduate education in any degree program.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Detail oriented, flexible, and able to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to work outside in varied conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to use personal vehicle for travel to field sites, with proof of insurance.
- Knowledge of and experience with ESRI software.
- Familiarity with using a tablet and data collection apps.
- Ability to identify invasive plant species.
- Experience conducting field work.
