This position functions under the supervision of the Chemist Supervisor for Environmental Health Division In organics/Metals Sections. It involves testing and participation in method development in the Inorganic Wet Chemistry/Metals areas of the laboratory, independently preparing and analyzing environmental samples, and monitoring the status of tests in the Wet Chemistry area. The successful candidate will perform routine analysis on Inorganic/Metals environmental samples with minimal supervision and operate flow injection analyzers (FIA), ICP‑OES, graphite furnace atomic absorption (GFFA), and ion chromatography (IC) instrumentation.
The role requires personal initiative, independence, strong technical skills, and collaboration.
The employee is expected to use quality management tools, demonstrate exceptional customer service, provide constructive feedback, use data collection tools as appropriate, contribute to effective teamwork, present ideas, carry out assignments, and participate in continuous learning through professional development. Primary work hours are 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
Key Job Responsibilities- Utilize assigned analytical methods-based quality requirements to verify test result validity and meet regulatory compliance.
- Learn and maintain analysis by participating in Wet Chemistry rotation.
- Prepare, develop, and conduct chemical research experiments and analyze specimens employing quality control and assurance practices.
- Utilize, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and information management systems to meet unit objectives in alignment with strategic initiatives.
- Prepare, review, verify, and report test result data.
Department: WSLH - Environmental Health Division - Inorganic Chemistry
Compensation: $50,000/year minimum (depending on qualifications)
Required Qualifications- College-level laboratory coursework in chemistry (Chem I) or science (Chem II) is required.
- Analytical laboratory experience is preferred;
Chem II requires 2–3 years of experience.
- More than 5 years of analytical laboratory experience.
- Experience in an environmental laboratory setting.
- Experience with FIA, ICP‑OES, GFFA, and IC instrumentation.
Education:
At minimum, a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, from an accredited institution is required. An official transcript will be required as a condition of employment. For degrees earned outside the United States, proof of credential equivalency by a nationally recognized organization (e.g., NACES or AICE‑Eval) is required, with expenses paid by the candidate.
