Job Summary
This position functions under the supervision of the Chemist Supervisor for the Environmental Health Division In organics/Metals Sections. Responsibilities include testing and participation in method development in the Inorganic Wet Chemistry/Metals areas of the laboratory. The role requires independent preparation and analysis of environmental samples and collaborating with team members to monitor status of tests in the Wet Chemistry area.
Key tasks involve routine analysis on Inorganic/Metals environmental samples with minimal supervision. Laboratory work includes operation and maintenance of flow injection analyzers (FIA), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP‑OES), graphite furnace atomic absorption (GFAA), and ion chromatography (IC) instrumentation. Strong technical skills, independence, and collaboration are essential.
Key Job Responsibilities- Utilize assigned analytical methods to verify test result validity and meet regulatory compliance.
- Learn and maintain analysis by participating in Wet Chemistry rotation.
- Prepare, develop, and conduct chemical research experiments and analysis of specimens employing quality control and assurance practices.
- Utilize, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and information management systems to meet unit objectives aligned with strategic initiatives.
- Prepare, review, verify, and report test result data.

$50,000 per year minimum (depending on qualifications).
Required Qualifications- College-level laboratory coursework in chemistry (Chemist I) or science (Chemist II).
- Analytical laboratory experience preferred; for Chemist II two to three years required.
- At minimum, a Bachelor of Science degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Official transcript showing conferred degree is required.
- For degrees earned outside the United States, proof of qualification equivalency from a nationally recognized organization such as the National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
- Five or more years of analytical laboratory experience.
- Previous experience working in an environmental laboratory setting.
- Experience with FIA, ICP‑OES, GFAA, IC instrumentation.
