SummaryMulti-process Combo Welder with a strong specialty focus in pipe welding. Performs high-quality welds using GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) and as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform pipe and structural welds using SMAW and GTAW; use GMAW/FCAW as required.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and specialty alloys as required (e.g., P11, P22, P91).
- Read and interpret drawings, isometrics, and weld symbols: verify dimensions and fit-up.
- Select the appropriate process, filler and equipment based on WPS/job requirements.
- Set up, tack and weld components to specification; cut and prep material as needed.
- Weld in all positions (flat, vertical, horizontal, overhead) to required quality standards.
- Grind, bevel, and prep pipe/steel; clean and inspect completed welds.
- Maintain tools and welding equipment to prevent safety or quality issues.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must have proven welding experience with strong attention to quality and detail. Strong proficiency in GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (stick); GMAW (Mig)/FCAW (Flux Core) experience preferred. Ability to read interpret drawings, isometrics, technical documents and weld procedures. Skilled with common trade tools (electrical and hand tools) used for cutting, fitting, and prep. Working knowledge of welding safety standards and PPE requirements.
Ability to pass the following weld tests:6” SCH
80 CS 6G SMAW 6010/7018
Journeyman’s Card or equivalent tradesman certificate; or at least 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous ASME pipe-welding experience is highly preferred.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as length, angle, degree turns, take-a-ways for different size pipe 45s and 90s, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
