Dane County Regional Airport has a full-time (1.0 FTE) vacancy for an Airport Maintenance Mechanic position. This is a second shift position with a normal work schedule of 1:30 pm to 12:00 am, rotating and including weekends and holidays.

Undesirable Hours Premium Pay:
Employees in this classification receive $3.00 for any time worked between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, and for any time on Saturday or Sunday.

The eligible list created from this posting may be used for future Airport Maintenance Mechanic vacancies for the next six months.

DEFINITION

Under general direction, performs skilled maintenance and repair work on airport building, facilities, mechanical utilities and equipment. Performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs skilled work in the maintenance or repair of airport terminal HVAC and mechanical systems, plumbing, buildings and electrical installations. Responsibilities include gas, diesel and electric motors, heat exchangers, variable air volume systems, gas forced air furnaces, circulating pumps, boiler alarm systems, electrical systems, variable frequency drives, emergency generators and generator panels, plumbing systems, compressors, welding equipment, refrigeration and cooling systems, water softening equipment, automated revenue control and parking lot ticket dispensers and gate units, building automation and computerized HVAC systems, automatic door operators and locks, baggage conveyor systems, passenger boarding bridges, flight information display systems, and other mechanical equipment.

EDUCATION,

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and five (5) years of experience in the construction or maintenance of large commercial HVAC and mechanical systems and building automation systems.

LICENCES/CERTIFICATES

Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A” with “N” endorsement within six months of appointment. All CDL holders must be registered in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Must be available nights, holidays, weekends, and during snow and other emergencies. Random drug and alcohol testing is required. Applicants must pass testing after a conditional offer of employment. Candidates in the final selection stage will undergo an FBI criminal history records check, TSA security assessment, employment history verification, and driving record check.

BACKGROUND

CHECK STATEMENT

Some positions may require a criminal background check, including fingerprinting. Wisconsin’s Fair Employment Law prohibits discrimination based on arrest or conviction records, but Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position’s responsibilities are substantially related to the criminal history. Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
