Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion.

$27.71 Per Hour (Step 01) to $32.32 Per Hours (Step 05). First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

• Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
  Conducts work to maintain and operate HVAC/R systems. Conducts work to maintain and operate lab support systems. Operates & performs required preventative maintenance on such equipment as HVAC systems, steam boilers, hot water boilers, incinerators, water hillers, walk-in freezers, diesel- powered electrical generators, HEPA-filtered air exhaust systems, sterilizers, and others Installs, modifies, repairs, & tests new & existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  
  Locates & diagnoses trouble occurring in all electrical & control systems and makes all required repairs. Condition of Employment
  - During on-call rotation, must be within 90 minutes response time to the Center for building emergencies.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 year trial period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
