Job SummaryThe Frank J. Remington Center, a University of Wisconsin Law School clinical center, has an opening for a Reentry/Outreach specialist. The reentry specialist will provide direct reentry services to Remington Center clients, work with other state reentry providers to identify service gaps and increase access to existing resources for people incarcerated in the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and engage in efforts to improve the reentry continuum as well as bring the voices of system-impacted people into policy efforts at the state level.
Specific Duties- Process reentry referrals received from Remington Center attorneys, and provide release planning and post‑release support to the specialist’s caseload of clients.
- Provide reentry support including but not limited to release planning, assistance securing post‑release housing, financial planning including child support obligations, finding employment, identifying community support, and planning for successful post‑release parole/supervision.
- Visit institution(s) as necessary.
- Maintain regular contact with released clients to keep them informed of opportunities and connect them to community.
- Attend community meetings related to reentry and criminal justice issues to establish connections with service providers and community members.
- Engage in advocacy work to improve the criminal legal system and bring voices of system‑impacted people into policy efforts.
- Assist with curriculum development as appropriate.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Comply with grant and other reporting requirements.
- Other tasks/duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships to support the outreach program.
- Schedule and secure resources and communicate logistics in support of outreach program.
- Deliver outreach program content and materials to community members.
- Research, develop, and facilitate outreach program content and materials.
- Develop and evaluate curriculum and programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Assist with monitoring of outreach program budget spending.
- Lead the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day‑to‑day activities for program staff, students, and community volunteers.

CompensationMinimum salary of $50,000 per year. Initial salary will be commensurate with experience and knowledge.
Required Qualifications- Professional experience working with vulnerable populations, especially those incarcerated or formerly incarcerated.
- Knowledge of Wisconsin Department of Corrections processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated interest in policy advocacy, community organizing, or involvement with community service providers and familiarity with the reentry service provider landscape in Wisconsin.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Background in social work, law, sociology, criminal justice, psychology, or a related discipline.
This is a one‑year position. After the initial year, dependent upon satisfactory performance, departmental need, and available funding, it may be extended for a second year. After the second year, the position may become a renewable (ongoing) position depending on similar factors.
