Job Description & How to Apply Below

A long-established, independently owned consulting engineering firm headquartered in the Madisonville, Kentucky area. The company has been serving Western Kentucky since the 70s and is regarded as one of the region's oldest design firms.

Over decades of steady growth, the firm has diversified its service offering across civil engineering, surveying, environmental services, project management, land development, and construction inspection - supporting public-sector and private clients across the region.

The team has a strong track record supporting municipalities and public agencies, including serving as city engineer for multiple Western Kentucky communities and providing engineering services for county and flood mitigation stakeholders.

Examples of representative public work include Safe Routes to School improvements for school campuses (sidewalks, ADA routes, drainage, lighting), and downtown streetscape/renaissance initiatives for Kentucky communities.

The firm remains family-owned (per the hiring team) and has maintained a reputation for responsive service, practical solutions, and long-term client relationships built over decades in Western Kentucky.

The Role

They are looking for a Structural Engineer with 5+ years of experience and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license to establish and help grow out a structural presence for them. You'll focus on structural design and evaluation for commercial buildings, with a strong emphasis on structural masonry design and projects supporting municipal and education clients.

You’ll join a multidisciplinary team that partners closely with local governments and public stakeholders - often taking projects from early assessment through design, permitting support, and construction-phase services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis, calculations, and design for new and existing buildings (with an emphasis on masonry systems)
  • Develop design narratives, calculation packages, and construction documents suitable for permitting and construction
  • Review drawings/submittals; respond to RFIs; provide construction-phase support and site observations as needed
  • Conduct field assessments of existing structures and prepare repair/strengthening concepts where applicable
  • Coordinate across disciplines internally (civil, surveying, environmental) to ensure cohesive project outcomes
  • Communicate directly with public-sector stakeholders and end users, supporting clear expectations, schedules, and deliverables
  • Contribute to quality control and mentoring of junior staff (as appropriate)
Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis preferred) from an ABET-accredited program
  • Active PE license (required)
  • 5+ years of progressive structural engineering experience (buildings)
  • Demonstrated structural masonry design experience (reinforced masonry preferred)
  • Experience with commercial buildings; plus meaningful project exposure in municipal and/or education environments
  • Proficiency with current U.S. building codes/standards relevant to buildings and masonry design (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, TMS/ACI as applicable)
  • Strong writing/communication skills and comfort interfacing with clients and project stakeholders
  • Experience evaluating and renovating existing masonry buildings
  • Familiarity with construction administration and site observation practices

Experience supporting public agency projects (documentation rigor, stakeholder coordination, schedule sensitivity)
  • Base salary: $100,000-$140,000, depending on experience and fit.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage options
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Professional development support (continuing education, license/renewal support, and relevant dues where applicable)
  • Hybrid flexibility (2-3 days in-office, remainder remote)
