Cyprus High School Special Education Mild/Moderate Teacher (1.0 FTE) (External Applicants Only) – posting closes at 3:00 pm on the date listed above.

Education & Licensure
  • Utah Special Education teaching license.
  • Out‑of‑state Special Education teaching license.
  • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license must upload a conferral letter from their university. The letter must be on official university letterhead and include:
    • The degree earned.
    • The anticipated graduation date.
    • The type of license and content area(s) in which the candidate will be recommended to the Utah State Board of Education.
  • At least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and already approved for an Associate License through the Utah State Board of Education in Special Education.
  • At least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and already accepted into one of the following university Special Education programs:
    • Weber State University
    • University of Utah
    • Utah State University
    • Southern Utah State University
    • Western Governor's University
    • Brigham Young University
    • Westminster College
    • Utah Tech University
    • Must be enrolled in the program and approved for the Associate Educator License program within 6 months of hire; failure to do so may jeopardize continuing employment.
Required Documents
  • In-state and out-of-state applicants must upload a copy of their state license with their application.
  • If approved for an Associate License, upload a copy of your highest university degree and your AEL eligibility letter.
  • Applicants accepted into one of the programs above must upload their university acceptance letter and maintain good standing with the university.

  • Mild/Moderate endorsement is required.
  • Position begins with the 2026‑2027 school year.
Job Summary

Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher creates a positive learning environment where students develop critical thinking, problem‑solving, lifelong learning, and productive citizenship skills. Teachers maintain a safe environment, establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues, motivate students to achieve mastery in accordance with each student's ability, differentiate curriculum and use effective research‑based instruction methods, and implement proficiency‑based grading.

Functions
  • Teach the core content areas outlined in the USBE’s Core Curriculum and related approved learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt curriculum to student needs.
  • Use effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive learning experiences.
  • Integrate computers and other technology equipment into instruction.
  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including recess and gymnasium activities, in all weather conditions.
  • Establish and maintain student behavior standards through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
  • Evaluate student academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Implement proficiency‑based learning and the Granite Way.
  • Communicate with parents via conferences, phone, email, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means about student progress.
  • Collaborate with other professional staff on student academic and personal growth.
  • Be present and timely for all instructional time.
  • Create functional learning environments with displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive classroom and campus environment.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, educator evaluation procedures, group standardized test administration, and faculty committees.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain inventory records.
  • Model professional and ethical standards with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
