Layout Technician Pay Range (Hourly) :
$25.00 to $35.00/hour depending on experience
Layout Technician Responsibilities and Duties (Essential Job Functions):
- Utilize surveying tools and equipment to stake out and mark accurate locations for Plumbing Sleeves, HVAC Equipment, Hanger Locations, and elements according to construction plans. Ensure precise measurements and alignment of layout components.
- Adhere to and enforce safety protocols and regulations related to construction site layout activities. Identify and mitigate potential hazards or risks associated with the layout process.
- Utilize construction layout software, GPS systems, and other technology tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency in layout coordination. Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in construction layout.
- Act as a liaison between various construction teams, including field personnel, subcontractors, and project managers, to facilitate clear communication and coordination regarding layout requirements and changes.
- Train new layout crew members on layout techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures. Provide ongoing training and mentorship to enhance crew members' skills and knowledge. Keep the crew up to date with industry's best practices and emerging technologies.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by a Project Manager
- Complies with UMC, Inc. safety procedures and policies. Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment or PPE. Ensures all work is performed using proper installation procedures and safety practices.

- Must have a valid driver's license, dependable transportation, able to pass a physical and drug screening, and be authorized to work in the US
- Proficiency in using surveying instruments, such as total stations, laser levels, and GPS equipment. Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and construction layout tools. Knowledge of Plumbing codes, regulations, and industry standards related to layout coordination. Proficiency in installing and assembling DWV and water-kitting materials, including pipes, fittings, valves, and fixtures. Knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, and industry standards. Familiarity with plumbing tools and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, staking, and marking of layout components. Ability to identify and rectify discrepancies or errors promptly.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including walking, standing, and lifting surveying equipment.
- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; hear; sit; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; climb or balance; stand; walk; lift or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds; work overhead and in cramped quarters. Good vision required.
- Ability to work independently without supervision
- Has the ability to understand architectural, structural and mechanical plans
- Must be willing to Travel up to 10% of the time
- Can work a schedule as needed between 6am-6pm depending on layout needs
- Willingness to fill 40-hour work schedule in the shop as needed.
- Experience in Hilti Total Station or Trimble (preferred)
While performing this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
