Southern Arkansas University (SAU), a public comprehensive regional university in Magnolia, Arkansas, is accepting applications for a 9‑month Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure‑track position in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Strength & Conditioning. The start date is August 1, 2026.
The Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in exercise science, sports management, and K‑12 physical education, and a graduate degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport coaching. The exercise science program is one of the fastest‑growing majors on campus, serving over 155 students across pre‑professional and strength & conditioning tracks.
Duties- Teach a full‑time course load in exercise science using a student‑centered approach, delivering instruction face‑to‑face and online.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate exercise science students.
- Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations.
- Contribute to university, department, and community service through committees, initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
- Earned doctorate in exercise science or a closely related field; ABD candidates considered with completion expectation by start date.
- Ability to deliver a wide range of undergraduate exercise science courses and commitment to developing or refining curricula to enhance program offerings.
- Dedication to supporting diverse student populations and using data for continuous program improvement.
- Record or potential for scholarly activity, including publications, presentations, or securing external funding.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within the department to strengthen the undergraduate program.
- Familiarity with standards set by professional organizations such as ACSM and NSCA.
- Preference for professional credentialing through nationally recognized organizations such as ACSM, NSCA, CSCCa, or NASM.
- Valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain before the start date.
- Experience teaching courses such as strength and conditioning, trends in strength and conditioning, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic exercise, applied statistics, and instrumentation and physiological assessment.
