County Extension Agent – Family & Consumer Science/4-H
Job DescriptionThe County Extension Agent – Family & Consumer Science/4-H conducts practical, community-based educational programs to empower individuals, families, and communities in the area of nutrition, family well-being, health, food safety, and economic self-sufficiency. The agent works closely with a broad audience base and local volunteers to solicit support and participation within the county.
Responsibilities include maintaining knowledge of the social, economic, and political characteristics of the county, developing and executing an annual action plan, planning, delivering, and teaching educational programs, leveraging Extension specialists and research-based information, serving as an advisor to the county Extension Homemaker Club, supporting the county 4-H program, employing evaluation techniques to measure program impact, ensuring compliance with civil rights requirements, completing required reports, collaborating with colleagues and partners, maintaining good working relationships, building a network of supporters and volunteers, maintaining knowledge of researched based FCS practices, and performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in family and consumer sciences, education, youth development, or related field of study; degree must be conferred by date of hire or Bachelor's degree with relevant work experience.
- Must have reliable transportation for use on the job with liability insurance in effect.
- Must successfully complete the standard background check which includes the Arkansas Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Check.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge in family and consumer sciences subject matter areas appropriate to the county assigned.
- Ability to plan and conduct programs and work with all clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, genetic information, sexual preference, pregnancy, or any other legally protected status.
- Ability to speak and write clearly and communicate ideas effectively.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours and travel frequently.
