JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:

Bus Driver

Reports To:

Director of Support Services

Primary

Purpose:

To ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel toand from schools or other designated locations.

Qualifications:
  • Possess a valid Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of student discipline procedure
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to operate school bus
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
  • Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
  • Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify the mechanic in writing of needed repairs.
  • Make written reports of all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures.
  • Fuel bus and keep records on mileage, gas, oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
  • Keep assigned bus clean, sweep daily and water hose when necessary.
  • Supervise students entering the bus, leaving the bus, and crossing streets or highways.
  • Communicate with the building principals, assistant principals, teachers and parents regarding student behavior while on the bus.
  • Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
  • Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
  • Observe traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  • Do the required pre and post bus inspection before and after each trip.
  • Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kits, fire extinguisher, reflectors and etc.
  • Report any hazardous condition along the route.
  • Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office.
  • Work irregular hours as needed.
  • Attend and complete required bus driver training program to maintain safety certification.
  • Ensure appropriate dress, appearance, and hygiene in the work area.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Support Services.
