Role DescriptionThe Utility Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Magnolia, TX. The individual in this position will review plans, specifications, and site conditions to prepare accurate estimates for underground utility projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing quantity take-offs, soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes, and preparing detailed bid proposals and budgets. The Utility Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, field supervisors, and design partners to clarify scope, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and support project planning.
This role also involves providing timely estimating support for change orders and new opportunities.
- Experience estimating utility construction projects, including water, sanitary sewer, drainage, and related civil work.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, civil plans, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating and take‑off software, spreadsheets, and basic project management tools.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving skills to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project teams, vendors, and clients.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Knowledge of construction means and methods, safety practices, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Prior experience in underground utilities is a plus.
- High school diploma required; technical training or degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in Magnolia, TX and visit project locations as needed.
