Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting all core accounting and finance functions with a strong emphasis on cost accounting, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of product costing, inventory valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS), manufacturing variance analysis, and monthly financial close activities. The Senior Accountant will serve as a key financial partner to Operations and Production by providing detailed cost analysis, identifying cost-saving opportunities, improving manufacturing cost visibility, and supporting operational decision-making.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, hands-on, and capable of operating effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance
* Lead all cost accounting functions for the organization including standard costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, and overhead allocations.
* Maintain and analyze product costing structures including labor, machine rates, burden, overhead absorption, and raw material costs.
* Analyze manufacturing variances including labor efficiency, material usage, scrap, overhead absorption, and purchase price variances.
* Develop and maintain accurate standard costs and review standards regularly to ensure alignment with operational and financial objectives.
* Partner with Operations and Production leadership to identify cost reduction opportunities and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
* Provide detailed margin analysis by product line, customer, job, and manufacturing process.
* Prepare detailed analytical reports related to production performance, cost drivers, and profitability.
* Perform root cause analysis on manufacturing and inventory variances and recommend corrective actions.
* Monitor and report on production rates, labor utilization, machine utilization, and operational performance metrics.
* Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities related to manufacturing operations and product costing. Financial Close & General Accounting
* Ensure the timely, accurate, and complete execution of month-end close activities related to inventory, inventory reserves, manufacturing costs, and COGS in accordance with reporting deadlines.
* Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, roll-forwards, and supporting schedules.
* Maintain and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts.
* Responsible for Balance Sheet account reconciliations and supporting documentation.
* Analyze monthly Profit & Loss variances and provide detailed explanations to management.
* Prepare monthly KPI and operational financial reporting packages.
* Monitor general ledger accounts for accuracy and reasonableness and investigate discrepancies. Inventory Accounting & Control
* Manage all inventory accounting functions including inventory transactions, inventory reserves, gross margin analysis, and variance reporting.
* Post and validate inventory transactions to ensure accurate inventory costing.
* Process production reports using actual bills of materials (BOMs) for manufactured production batches and finished goods.
* Review aged, damaged, excess, and on-hold inventory and partner with Operations to resolve inventory issues in a timely manner.
* Prepare and analyze inventory reserve calculations during accounting close periods.
* Coordinate, lead, and participate in cycle counts and physical inventories.
* Reconcile physical inventory to perpetual inventory records and investigate discrepancies.
* Initiate warehouse cycle counts when discrepancies cannot be resolved through standard investigation procedures.
