This is a full-time CWA position, and hours of work and days are determined by the supervisor.
Note:
Employees serving in job titles assigned specific workweek limits of 35 hours are entitled to be compensated for approved time worked in excess of their normal workweek at the rate of time and one-half.
Under the close supervision of the Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator, performs and assists in the operation of the chemistry laboratories. This includes but is not limited to preparation, set‑up, take‑down, and clean‑up for the chemistry labs offered by the chemistry and biochemistry major. Serves as sole staff on duty during designated hours.
Duties- Assists Chemistry Lab Coordinator in all aspects of laboratory preparation for chemistry, biochemistry and Environmental Science (for Environmental Chemistry) teaching laboratories
- Prepares reagents and equipment under the supervision of the Chemistry Lab Coordinator
- Sets up and takes down laboratory equipment as needed for teaching labs
- Responsible for proper collection and disposal of waste generated in the teaching labs and research labs under the supervision of the Chemistry Lab Coordinator
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of student laboratories, chemistry prep areas and chemical stockrooms
- Maintains SDS documents as directed by the Chemistry Lab Coordinator
- Helps to maintain inventories of teaching labs and research labs as directed by the Chemistry Lab Coordinator
- Is present during lab sessions designated by the Chemistry Lab Coordinator to provide supplies and assistance as required as well as maintain safe practices. This includes evening lab sessions and may also include Saturday lab sessions.
- Maintains clear communication with faculty and students to relay lab‑related problems with Chemistry Lab Coordinator and faculty member(s) teaching that laboratory
- Other duties as assigned by the Chemistry Lab Coordinator
- Courses are scheduled on a semester basis. The schedule of the laboratory staff varies semester by semester. This will include evenings and could include weekends to accommodate program schedules and laboratory needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- Successful completion of 60 semester‑hour credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by twenty‑four 24 semester hour credits in chemistry
- Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience as a Chemistry Laboratory Technician on a year‑for‑year basis.
Knowledge of chemistry or other field of science involving lab analyses
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, reagents, and techniques.
Knowledge of the principles of laboratory analyses and test techniques and the use of standard laboratory equipment, supplies, and reagents.
Ability to analyze routine technical laboratory problems, organize assigned work, and develop effective work methods.
Ability to make varied routine laboratory analyses in accord with standard and prescribed procedures.
Ability to observe and enforce adequate/realistic safety precautions.
Ability to maintain essential records, reports, and files.
Ability to prepare clear, technically sound, accurate, and informative laboratory reports of tests/analyses containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Ability to use laboratory equipment, utensils, materials and supplies in such a manner as to avoid breakage, deterioration and loss.
Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the chemistry labs.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
Ability to lift 30 lb.
Understanding of and commitment to maintaining safe lab practices. Serve as example of use of personal protective equipment.
Commitment to customer service within the limitations of the curriculum and safety regulations.

Salary Range: $43,236–$54,698
Internal Applicants' salary will be based on Union Contract Negotiations
