Position: Family Support Worker - Duty & Assessment / Mash

This role sits within the Duty & Assessment/MASH service and focuses on providing high-quality, responsive support in line with statutory safeguarding responsibilities. You will work closely with social workers to support assessments and investigations, undertake direct work with children and families (including life story work and building family resilience), and collaborate with multi‑agency partners to ensure children’s needs are met in line with safeguarding guidance and national reforms.

Strong recording skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines are essential.

The Family Support Worker will work in close partnership with children and their families to support social workers in undertaking assessments and investigations. They will carry out direct work with children, young people and families, including building family resilience, supporting with practical tasks and undertaking one-to-one work such as life story work.

The Family Support Worker will:

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure children’s needs are effectively identified and met.
  • Actively promote and encourage the participation of children, young people and families, following best practice in safeguarding and adhering to agreed policies and statutory guidance where concerns arise.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all casework on the recording system, evidencing good practice throughout the child’s journey and supporting inspection frameworks that assess outcomes for children and young people. This will include preparing written reports and providing evidence as required, including reports for Court proceedings where necessary.

This role offers hybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week based in the office.

You should have good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to and engage with children, parents, carers and other professionals. Experience of delivering front line statutory interventions is an advantage, but not essential, and you should be willing to attend training and learn from other professionals too. You will be resilient, flexible and a good communicator and it would be helpful to have some knowledge of legislation applicable to this role e.g. Children Act 1989.

You will also need:

  • A full and valid driving licence and access to own transport
  • A good standard of written and spoken English
  • To be able to address specific equality and/or diversity issues within your practice with service users and/or colleagues and take action to address these
  • An ability to keep and maintain accurate records in a timely way
  • An ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
