This full-time Senior Bookkeeper role is a hybrid position based in Winthrop, ME, with the flexibility to work part of the time from home. The Senior Bookkeeper will manage day-to-day accounting operations, including recording and reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate general ledger records. The role involves preparing and assisting with financial statements, monitoring cash flows, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
The Senior Bookkeeper will work closely with advisors, internal teams, and external partners to ensure timely, accurate financial information and compliance with internal controls and relevant accounting standards. Responsibilities also include using accounting software to generate reports, troubleshooting discrepancies, improving bookkeeping processes, and supporting audits and financial reviews.
- Strong bookkeeping and finance skills, including hands-on experience with day-to-day transactional accounting and cash management.
- Proficiency in preparing and analyzing financial statements, with the ability to identify variances and provide clear explanations.
- Experience with journal entries and general ledger maintenance, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
- Knowledge and practical use of accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, ERP systems) and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Several years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in financial services or a regulated environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid work environment.
- Familiarity with GAAP and internal control best practices; experience supporting audits is a plus.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper, CPA candidate) are beneficial but not required.
