Job Description
WSP is initiating a search for a Construction Inspector to oversee road, bridge, and associated construction projects with values ranging from $1 to $50 million. The position can be based in Portland, Augusta or Eliot, ME, or Merrimack, NH. The inspector will monitor various work elements including excavation, back filling, compaction, cast‑in‑place concrete, precast installation, bridge components, rail, drainage, paving, and incidental items, and will report to the Resident Engineer or their designee.

- Interface with contractor supervisors to determine and monitor daily work.
- Complete daily reports, measuring and calculating unit price quantities.
- Coordinate independent material sampling and testing, or perform the same periodically.
- Monitor maintenance of traffic.
- Take and compile photographs to track daily progress.
- Update red‑line drawings using Bluebeam.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma
- 5 years of applicable experience
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn to read plans and specifications or aptitude to learn
- Valid driver’s license
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
- Associate of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Average proficiency with MS Word Suite
- Hands‑on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD, or similar, and knowledge of Bluebeam
- ACI, NETTCP certification or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring
- Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications, and experience will be considered
