Job Description

The University of Southern Maine is seeking a detail-oriented and student-focused individual to join our Student Financial Services team as an Accounting Support Specialist.

Student Financial Services plays a vital role in supporting student success at the University of Southern Maine. By working in this area, you'll see firsthand the impact of your efforts—helping students access life-changing educational opportunities and celebrating their accomplishments.

In this role, you will engage directly with students, assisting with questions related to charges, payments, and financial aid. You will also be responsible for calculating and identifying amounts due to the university. The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, as you’ll be handling a range of inquiries—from routine questions to complex and sensitive issues that demand a thorough understanding of university policies and procedures.

This is a full-time position on our Gorham Campus that will pay $18.86/hour (non-negotiable) for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee with the University of Maine System.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Demonstrated administrative and accounting support or comparable experience
  • Ability to work well with many people at all levels
  • Computer proficiency (ex. MS Office, web)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
