MSAD#31 is seeking experienced and qualified candidates for the position of Director of Special Services. The Director of Special Services position is a tremendous opportunity for a strong and experienced educational leader. The successful candidate will be part of the ongoing growth and development of our system and special education program.
ResponsibilitiesThis is a full-time position beginning July 1, 2025 that is responsible for overseeing Special Education, 504, and Gifted and Talented programming for our district of approximately 450 students in grades K‑12.
Qualifications- Current Maine certification as an Administrator of Special Education (030).
- A Master’s degree in special education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated previous successful leadership experience as a Director of Special Education.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and Ch 104.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of assessments used for identification, annual reviews, and triennial reviews.
- Demonstrated successful oversight of all aspects of IDEA, Section 504, and GT programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire students and staff to high levels of achievement.
- Ability to develop appropriate and respectful professional relationships with all stakeholders.
- Experience in effective evaluation practices and in supporting instructional improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee Behavior and Life Skills programs.
- Ability to inspire trust and confidence in students, staff, and community.
- Knowledge and experience in data‑driven decision‑making.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a strong leadership team.
- Knowledge of uses of technology as an instructional tool and in data analysis.
