In the School of Performing Arts, one or more opportunities may be offered to part-time, temporary faculty members during spring and/or fall 2026. We anticipate hiring in Applied Trumpet Lessons and Collaborative Piano; other opportunities could become available.

The faculty member in Applied Trumpet will teach applied trumpet lessons to undergraduate and graduate music majors and minors, preparing students for solo, ensemble, and professional performance opportunities. Responsibilities include coaching brass chamber ensembles, teaching brass-related courses such as brass methods or literature, and contributing to the overall brass area curriculum. The faculty member will collaborate closely with the directors of bands and orchestras to support the brass sections in large ensembles through sectionals, auditions, and performance preparation.

In addition to teaching, the faculty member is expected to engage in student recruitment and retention activities.

The faculty member in Collaborative Piano may serve as the primary accompanist for student recitals, juries, and ensemble performances within the School of Performing Arts. Responsibilities include providing collaborative piano support studio classes, and departmental performances across instrumental and vocal areas

Positions typically require teaching in person on campus.

Part-time temporary faculty members may be rehired in subsequent semesters based on course availability, schedule, funding, and performance. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable university policies.

Qualifications:

Required - Applied Studio Teaching

* Earned master's degree in music with significant professional experience in performance in the applied area or music education.

* Demonstrated excellence in applied teaching at the collegiate, secondary, or equivalent level.

* Evidence of strong performance ability across a variety of musical styles.

* Effective communication and organizational skills.

Preferred - Applied Studio Teaching

* Doctoral degree in music or equivalent professional experience.

* Experience coaching chamber ensembles or directing brass ensembles.

* Evidence of successful student recruitment and retention.

* Record of ongoing professional performance or scholarly activity.

Required - Collaborative Piano

* Earned master's degree in piano performance or collaborative piano, or equivalent professional experience.

* Exceptional collaborative performance skills with both instrumentalists and vocalists.

* Strong sight-reading and rehearsal preparation abilities.

* Effective organizational and communication skills.

* Ability to manage multiple performance assignments and support student learning in a collaborative environment.

Preferred - Collaborative Piano

* Doctoral degree in piano performance or collaborative piano, or equivalent professional background.

* College-level experience as a collaborative pianist or coach.

* Experience teaching related coursework such as accompanying techniques, diction, or chamber music.

* Evidence of professional activity as a performer and mentor to student accompanists.

* Ability to contribute to recruitment, outreach, and service efforts within a comprehensive school of music.
