Mount Desert Elementary School (MDES) is seeking two Special Education Teachers to join our collaborative, rural community. We are a Pre‑K through 8th‑grade school that prioritizes Safety, Respect, Responsibility, and Perseverance in everything we do.

  We utilize a sophisticated Multi‑Tiered System of Support (MTSS) that views behavior as communication and treats misbehavior as a "lagging skill" requiring instruction rather than just punishment.

  Our educators are guided by the HIT Framework, focusing on equity, classroom culture, and student‑centered instruction.
• A Collaborative Ecosystem:
  You will work alongside a full support team, including a Special Education Secretary, OT, PT, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Behavior Interventionist and a team of skilled and experienced Ed Techs.

We are looking to fill two roles focused on IEP case management, the design, delivery, and monitoring of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), and consultation with our multidisciplinary team of specialists.

• Position 1: Special Education Teacher (Certification 282 required).
• Position 2: Special Education Teacher (Certification 282 required; 282b endorsement preferred).

• Holds (or is eligible for) Maine Department of Education Certification 282.
