The Big Picture
The Congregational Church of East Sumner ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) seeks a Pastor to Lead Our Congregation. The church is located in the western mountains of Maine about 1.5 hours north of Portland, 30 minutes from Auburn/ Lewiston and 30 minutes from Augusta. Sumner is a town of around 1,000 people, with another approx. 3,500 in neighboring towns from which our 35 congregants come.
We seek a pastor to lead us and help us witness for God in our community. We sustained worship during the pandemic, the congregation has returned to normal and membership is stable. We seek to reach out to the unchurched and develop a dynamic children's program.
Requirements
Job description: Preaching at Sunday morning worship and selected other special
services, counseling, and teaching, administering Sacraments, conducting weddings and funerals, visitation, prayer for the congregation, and regular communication with the congregation.
Candidate
Description:
Mature believer in Christ who embraces Reformed theology and principles. We seek a half time, bivocational pastor, preferably a graduate of a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.
Compensation range: $41K-$50K, dependent on education level and experience, to be allocated among salary/housing/ benefits/pension as determined by the
candidate, plus reimbursables.
If the candidate is a recent college graduate with significant faith formation/
training the seminary requirement is waivable, but the candidate would be
expected to be engaged in credible and approved continuing education at a
Reformed school.
If the candidate is bivocational the church will bear in mind the demands of the
other employment. In this case, the church related continuing education may be
online, as long as it includes an in person component that the church would be
supportive of. Four weeks of vacation. A sabbatical offered after the completion
of 5 years service at the church.
