Overview
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIE) at the University of Maine invites applications for a non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor (Ph.D. required) or Lecturer (M.S. required) teaching‑focused position. The appointment is a two‑year, fixed‑length role that supports and strengthens the department’s undergraduate program.
ResponsibilitiesTeach undergraduate courses in water resources and geotechnical or geo‑environmental engineering. Required courses include surface water hydrology and groundwater hydraulics and hydrology, with the ability to offer a core undergraduate course in geotechnical engineering. Responsibilities include high‑quality classroom instruction; student advising, mentorship, and curriculum development; and active service to the department, the university, and the state. Service to the profession is encouraged;
industry experience is viewed favorably but not required.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to engage in research and graduate student mentoring in collaboration with existing faculty, while remaining supported in scholarship and research activities.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline for the Assistant Professor position; M.S. required for the Lecturer position.
- B.S. required for both positions.
- U.S. person or resident with valid immigration status.
- Previous industry experience.
- Ability and willingness to obtain licensure as a professional engineer (PE).
