Position: Summer Intern
Classification: Library Aide Type: Entry Level, Paraprofessional, Seasonal Hours/week: 30 Pay rate: $19.00/hour Duration: 10 weeks, early June to early August
The Thomas Memorial Library is seeking an energetic college or graduate student with a passion for literacy and a desire to share their enthusiasm for public service to serve in the library’s Family & Community Engagement Departments as a Summer Intern.
This position will assist with the planning, implementation, and promotion of Summer Reading programs and events, including registering children/teens for events, distributing literacy related incentives, and encouraging individuals and families to participate in library activities. The Summer Intern will also assist with general library duties, such as shelving and assisting library users in finding and using library resources.

Potential candidates for this position must be a currently enrolled college or graduate student who is 18 years of age or older.
The duration of this internship will be from approximately June 15 – August 15, 2026.
The Summer Intern is expected to work 30 hours per week. The schedule will vary based on programming needs; however, most hours will primarily be scheduled Tuesday – Saturday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Duties- Registers people for the library’s summer reading programs, and hands out incentives.
- Assists in preparing materials for library programs.
- Assists in setting up and conducting library programs and events.
- Shelves books, magazines, newspapers, audio-visual and other library materials.
- Straightens materials on library shelves and shelf-reads to assure that materials are in the proper order.
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the position as assigned.
Potential candidates for this position must have a high school diploma, and be a currently enrolled college or graduate student who is 18 years of age or older.
Physical DemandsMust possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Standing in and walking between work areas is frequently required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to perform assigned duties, as well as push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds and push and pull materials up to 75 pounds with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives.
