The Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus is located in Sullivan, Maine, approximately 15 minutes east of Ellsworth and 40 miles east of Bangor. The campus houses Sumner Middle School (≈200 students) and Sumner Memorial High School (≈260 students).
OverviewWe are seeking a team‑oriented, collaborative, energetic, and creative school counselor. This full‑time position begins as soon as a suitable candidate is found and includes 15 paid days beyond regular contract hours for summer work.
Responsibilities- Navigate adolescent development and provide school‑wide academic support and guidance.
- Assist students with post‑secondary pursuits and career planning.
- Provide academic support and interventions.
- Offer emotional and trauma‑informed supports.
- Build community partnerships that bring valued‑added programs.
- Familiarize with effective RTI approaches.
- Collaboratively develop student schedules and monitor graduation readiness.
- Manage and monitor students enrolled in early college programs.
- Partner with school administration to advance academic success.
- Have experience/knowledge with Proficiency Based Education (PBE).
- Partner with school social worker to provide SEL support.
- Possess holistic understanding of special education and 504 best practices.
- Collaborate with Guidance Department administrative assistant on day‑to‑day operations and programs.
- Hold or be eligible to hold a Maine Educator Certification.
- Have a current MDOE Criminal History Records Check.
- Prior classroom teaching experience preferred but not required.
