Job Summary: Special Education Teacher for elementary school students within the life skills classroom. This role focuses on delivering individualized instruction that promotes academics, student independence, and functional academic growth.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid Maine Certification:
- 282 - Teacher of Students with Disabilities
- ~or~
- 286 - Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities
- Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with measurable goals aligned to both academic and functional life skills.
- Provide direct instruction in areas such as:
- Academics
- Personal Hygiene and daily living
- Social-emotional learning and communication
- Adapt and modify the general curriculum to meet diverse student needs using a variety of instructional strategies and assistive technologies.
- Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., SLPs, OTs, PTs) to support student development.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor IEP progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment, using positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).
- Participate in IEP meetings, school-wide initiatives, staff training, and professional learning communities.
- Supervise and collaborate with educational technicians and support staff.
- Small class sizes with low student-to-teacher ratios.
- Classroom and community-based instruction environments.
- Physical demands may include lifting and assisting students with personal care needs.
- Flexibility to work with students across a range of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral profiles.
