Pastor
The Congregational Church of East Sumner (East Sumner, ME) seeks a Pastor to lead our congregation. The church is located in the western mountains of Maine about 1.5 hours north of Portland, 30 minutes from Auburn/Lewiston and 30 minutes from Augusta. Sumner is a town of around 1,000 people, with another approximately 3,500 in neighboring towns from which our 35 congregants come.
We seek a pastor to lead us and help us witness for God in our community. We sustained worship during the pandemic; the congregation has returned to normal, and membership is stable. We aim to reach out to the unchurched and develop a dynamic children’s program.
- Preaching at Sunday morning worship and selected other special services, counseling, and teaching.
- Administering sacraments, conducting weddings and funerals, visitation, prayer for the congregation, and regular communication with the congregation.
Mature believer in Christ who embraces Reformed theology and principles. We seek a half‑time, bivocational pastor, preferably a graduate of a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.
CompensationCompensation range: $41K–$50K, dependent on education level and experience, to be allocated among salary, housing, benefits, and pension as determined by the candidate, plus reimbursables.
Additional Qualifications- If the candidate is a recent college graduate with significant faith formation/training, the seminary requirement is waivable, but the candidate would be expected to be engaged in credible and approved continuing education at a Reformed school.
- If the candidate is bivocational, the church will consider the demands of the other employment. In this case, the church‑related continuing education may be online, provided it includes an in‑person component that the church would support.
