Location: Fryeburg
SY
Fryeburg Academy, a 700‑student day and boarding high school located in Western Maine/the Mount Washington Valley, seeks a librarian/teacher beginning in the fall of 2026. In addition to filling the traditional roles of a librarian, this individual will help to manage the library as a community hub and contribute to the vision of a 21st century library. Fryeburg Academy faculty have responsibilities connected to the school's boarding program.
The Academy therefore seeks individuals who enjoy working with high‑school students in and out of the classroom.
- Curate the collection of resources in the library, including purchasing, processing, repairing, and de-selecting items
- Manage the circulation system, including the patron database, checkouts and returns of items, and overdue notices
- Manage textbooks, including processing, scheduling pickups and returns, repairing, and de-selecting
- Work with the business office on billing for damaged and lost books and textbooks
- Work with teachers to help students learn how to conduct digital research
- Run annual programs and contests and create displays to encourage student reading
- Help students with 3‑D printing and other makerspace‑related items
- Teach two basic technology‑related courses each semester
- Serve as an advisor for a group of 12‑14 students
- Serve after‑school hours in the Residential Life program as assigned
- A strong belief in independent education and particularly in the mission of Fryeburg Academy
- The ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining high professional standards
- Technology‑related skills, including:
- 50+ WPM typing skills
- Proficiency with at least one of Windows or macOS operating systems; iOS, Android, and ChromeOS a plus
- Working knowledge of at least one basic office software suite (Google Workspace, MS Office, Libre Office)
- Knowledge of Follett Destiny beneficial
- 3D printing, Glowforge, Cricut, and/or other creative technology skills a plus
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred; preference given to candidates with degrees in teaching, education, or library science
- Experience working with students outside the classroom (e.g., tutoring, coaching, working in a residential or camp setting, or as an activity advisor) is a plus
- All offers of employment are contingent on a cleared background check from the company of our choosing
- All Fryeburg Academy employees must hold a Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) Approval
- Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to work a non‑standard‑school‑day schedule
