North Haven Community School is Searching for a Full-Time Science Teacher For Grades 7-12 for the School Year
North Haven Community School is seeking a science teacher who wants to do more than teach science in a traditional classroom. This position offers the chance to work with middle and high school students in small, multi-age classes while helping shape one of the most distinctive public school science programs in Maine.
The successful candidate will teach science across grades 7–12, with rich opportunities for interdisciplinary instruction, fieldwork, and collaboration with school staff, community partners, and off-island organizations. This work may also include mentoring local, off-island, and magnet students as they explore marine science, climate science, coastal ecosystems, civic engagement, outdoor leadership, and the arts, using the island itself as a living classroom.
Science teaching at NHCS includes opportunities to build meaningful partnerships with organizations such as Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, the Island Institute, and Bigelow Laboratory.
We are looking for an experienced science teacher who is eligible for Maine certification and excited by place-based learning, fieldwork, interdisciplinary planning, small-school relationships, and the chance to help build something new. At North Haven, science is not just a subject. It is a way for students to understand their community, their coast, and their role in a changing world.
