SummaryK-6 Special Education Teacher - Special Purpose Private School. The Special Education Teacher (or someone with a Bachelor's degree who is willing to pursue certification) is needed for a K‑6 position, serving students with intellectual disabilities. The teacher will program for, and teach in the K‑6 program that serves students that require 1:1 support, who are working towards their highest level of independence by working on behavioral goals, effective communication, social goals, and academic goals that are created for each student by a team of professionals and the child's parents/guardians.
The Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is used to help create the Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP), which is developed by the school team and parents/guardians to address additional needs of each student. The K‑6 program uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to address student weaknesses and build off their current strengths. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst oversees the program and data is taken daily to ensure goals are being worked on daily and that students are making progress towards their goals.
Classroom teachers create materials, visuals, and other needed tools for the delivery of instruction to meet the diverse needs of the students in the program.
Classroom teachers are responsible for providing instruction to 5‑7 students. Teachers oversee the Ed Techs assigned to each of their students in their class. Teachers assist in creating IEP goals and are a vital part of the IEP team. Students require varying levels of assistance with skills such as communicating effectively, following safety instructions, participating in academic learning opportunities, using playground equipment safely, and toileting, for example.
