Position OverviewAOS
98 is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide services for 3-5 year olds in our district Pre‑K programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to meeting the diverse needs of early childhood students with disabilities, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes growth and success for all learners.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
- Adapt curriculum materials and teaching strategies to support differentiated instruction.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student progress.
- Monitor and assess student performance and progress, adjusting teaching methods accordingly.
- Demonstrate compliance with Maine DOE procedures and paperwork, including participation in child find activities.
- Provide support in inclusive classroom settings, fostering a positive and respectful environment that encourages student engagement and promotes a pathway to student independence.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Hold a 282 B-5 certification or a 282 with eligibility for a conditional 282-B.
- Knowledge of IDEA and current best practices in special education.
- Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities (e.g., developmental delays, emotional/behavioral disorders, autism, intellectual disabilities).
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Experience with assistive technology and behavior management strategies.
- Familiarity with developmental milestones to complete developmental evaluations.
- Training in de-escalation or crisis intervention (e.g., Safety Care, PBIS) is a plus.

Position begins with the 26/27 school year at Edgecomb Eddy School. Depending on enrollment and student needs across the district, the position will be reevaluated on a yearly basis.
Salary for this role ranges from $57,555.28 to $91,240.53 depending on relevant experience and degree level.
