English Teacher - Sumner High School - Rsu

Join Sumner Memorial High School, nestled in picturesque Sullivan, Maine. Our brand-new learning campus is just a short 15‑minute drive east of Ellsworth, the county seat, and 40 miles from Bangor. The campus is close to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and houses Sumner Middle School and Sumner Memorial High School, serving about 480 students in grades 6‑12. Our focus is on empowering students to navigate diverse environments and make impactful contributions to their communities while fostering a challenging yet safe and respectful setting.

We are seeking a team‑oriented, energetic, and creative educator to teach English Language Arts at Sumner Memorial High School for the 2026‑2027 school year. Pay is based upon experience and level of education.

• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Guide the student learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and individual student growth.
• Follow and adhere to district‑approved curriculum and work in harmony with school‑based and district‑approved goals.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
• Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules.
• Develop reasonable rules and expectations for classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order fairly and justly.
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide feedback to help students grow and develop.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports several times per school year.
• Monitor students for possible educational disabilities and seek assistance of school and district specialists as required.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a Maine Teacher Certification and possess a current MDOE Criminal History Records Check. Candidates should bring experience and education commensurate with the position.
