Position SummaryThe Middle and High School World Language Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that develop students' communication skills and appreciation for diverse cultures. The successful candidate will foster an inclusive classroom where students build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the target language.
This teacher will collaborate with colleagues across grade levels and departments to support student learning and contribute to a positive school culture. Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills are essential.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging World Language instruction aligned with Maine Learning Results and district curriculum.
- Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and language acquisition.
- Develop lessons that integrate speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural understanding.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of middle and high school learners.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technology to promote student engagement.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
- Maintain organized lesson plans, student records, and ongoing communication with students and families.
- Collaborate regularly with middle school and high school faculty to support interdisciplinary learning and student success.
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Groups, department meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
- Build positive relationships with students and families through consistent communication and high expectations.
- Support and contribute to a school culture focused on belonging, accountability, and academic excellence.
- Valid Maine Department of Education World Language certification or eligibility for certification.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Passion for working with adolescents in grades 6–12.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to creating an engaging and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Experience teaching multiple proficiency levels of a World Language.
- Familiarity with BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) frameworks.
- Experience integrating technology into language instruction.
- Experience collaborating across grade levels and departments.
- Experience using student data to inform instruction and promote student growth.
