MSAD 41

PVS Academic Guidance Counselor

The 5-12 Academic Guidance Counselor provides academic, career, and social‑emotional support to students in grades 5-12 through individual counseling, small‑group interventions, academic planning, attendance support, post‑secondary readiness activities, and direct instruction of Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) classes. The successful candidate will collaborate with students, families, staff, and community partners to promote student achievement, positive school climate, and overall well‑being while participating in MTSS, 504, SAT, and other student support processes.

MSAD 41 is located in beautiful Piscataquis County, about 45 minutes to Bangor, and has a student population of approximately 600 students over four schools:
Marion C Cook (PK), Milo Elementary School (K-2), Brownville Elementary School (3-4), and Penquis Valley Middle High School (5-12).

Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) Instruction
  • Develop and deliver SEL curriculum for students in grades 5‑12.
  • Teach skills related to self‑awareness, self‑management, responsible decision‑making, relationship building, resilience, and conflict resolution.
  • Facilitate classroom lessons focused on mental wellness, school connectedness, goal setting, and personal growth.
  • Utilize student survey and school climate data to inform SEL programming.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate SEL practices throughout the school community.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of SEL programming and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
  • Maine School Counselor Certification (075) or eligibility for certification required; experience working with middle and/or high school students preferred; strong communication, organizational, and relationship‑building skills; knowledge of social‑emotional learning, student support systems, college and career readiness, and academic intervention practices preferred.
